4x4xU
Lainey Wilson.
A great song by Lainey Wilson, Jon Decious, and Aaron Raitiere. This duet version is simple, slower, and intimate. Wilson wrote the song in Indianapolis during the 96th annual FFA Convention (Colter also played hockey in Indy), a fitting place given that her father started one of the first FFA chapters at Louisiana Tech. She once swore she’d never write a truck song. Then “Wait in the Truck” happened, and she stopped fighting it. “4X4XU” followed the same instinct: write what you know, write about your people. The three writers finished it in under an hour. Producer Jay Joyce then took it somewhere else entirely, building that feeling of being grounded and untethered at the same time. It became the second single from Wilson’s Whirlwind album and her eighth No. 1.
